What BambooVPN does best
- A free version. BambooVPN has free servers with no ads inside the same app. ExpressVPN's own app has no free plan.
- A longer trial. BambooVPN's yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial; ExpressVPN's mobile trial is 3 days.
- Weekly and yearly plans on iPhone and Android. Use the yearly plan for everyday protection all year, or the weekly plan for a short trip, on either platform.
- Servers grouped by use. Choose streaming, gaming, social media, sports or work, and the app recommends a server.
- Secure Core multi-hop. BambooVPN Pro can route your traffic through two servers.
What ExpressVPN offers
- A wide network. 113 countries and 214 locations.
- Obfuscation. ExpressVPN's obfuscation is designed for restrictive networks.
- 10 to 14 devices at once, depending on the plan.
- An independent audit. KPMG audited ExpressVPN's no-logs policy in June 2025.
- Extras. Its own Lightway protocol, ShuffleIP and a dedicated IP option.
Plans, trials and refunds
BambooVPN is billed through the App Store or Google Play, with weekly and yearly plans. The yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial, and refunds go through Apple's or Google's normal process.
ExpressVPN sells monthly, 12-month and 2-year plans on its website in Basic, Advanced and Pro tiers, and a 1-week plan in its iPhone app. There's a 3-day trial on iOS and Android, and first-time website purchases have a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Privacy and security
Both have no-logs policies. BambooVPN's privacy policy says it doesn't log browsing activity, connection timestamps, IP addresses, DNS queries or the traffic that passes through the VPN. ExpressVPN backs its policy with an independent KPMG audit.
Both include a kill switch and a blocker for ads and trackers.
Which should you choose?
